AZGRC's Cruise the Valley

On Sunday we took the pups to Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area to join AZGRC on their monthly Cruise the Valley event.  Since this was a nature hike both Monty and Harlow got to go.
Getting ready to head out - Harlow and Monty are on the right.
This was our first time walking in this area, so we were very interested to see what the park was like.  Of course, being in the company of good friends and Golden pups makes the day all that much better!
Harlow making friends (this was right before she jumped him...)
Monty happily marching along with Dad.

Making sure the stragglers keep up.

The park was very interesting.  I was impressed by the artwork underneath one of the bridges - bright and colorful!
The flag of Arizona made a beautiful backdrop - if you click on the photo you can see some of the wildlife that lives in this park.
There was even a reminder that our desert can be full of surprises!
Cottonwoods, water, shade...  I think I'm in the wrong state!
...and of course, our little drama queen needed her royal court to help her over the bridges.  She was really sure a troll would come and eat her...
If the video doesn't play for you, you can view it on YouTube.

...and what it looked like from the other side....  (With Dad and Monty looking on!)
Find a feather bed to put me down on, Momma.

  2. Oh Harlow! Looks to the Vs as though you may need a little bit of horsey training… you know the kind? where they make you go over blue tarpaulins and stuff?

  3. Harlow, even if there aren't trolls, it's always good training for the humans to carry you whenever possible. Got to keep up with the human training! ;-)

  8. Ooooh, the Trippy Trap bridge!!! Well, it's a good thing you're just a little puppy, Harlow, and not a big puppy - otherwise your mom might not have been able to help you!
    Yours sincerely,

  9. We had trouble the first couple of times we went over those see-through bridges. Roxy even had trouble going over a solid concrete one...

That's a great day out. Bet you turned some heads when they saw all those goldens together.

  15. It's a good thing you have a strong back :)

I think that Shyla might require your services at a bridge like that one. She agrees with Harlow about those grated bridges!

    Glad you had such fun!

  18. Oh my gosh. Dogs and horses have a lot more in common than I realized. (Fear of crossing bridges.)

The first time I took a dog to obedience school, the instructor was taking a group of about 40 dogs and their owners for a walk. He pointed and yelled, "Move out!" All these dogs and their owners started moving, and there was me and my Sheltie Monty at the back of the back going backwards. The instructor would not let me drag him or pick him up. I felt stuck, but then something clicked and Monty finally just started walking. I suspect he was afraid the other dogs would leave him behind.
