Goodbye, sweet Nicholas

Many of you will remember that back in December, AZGRC rescued an amazing dog they named Nicholas.  Nicholas had a growth on his face and required extensive surgery to remove it.  If you would like to read the original posts (GRAPHIC), please click here.  Despite all that he had been through, Nicholas bounced back with all the grace of a Golden.

We all knew right from the start that Nicholas was indeed special.
We had hoped to add him as a member of our family, but fate had other plans.  Nicholas remained in the loving arms of his foster people, Kara and Bob.
I enjoyed meeting him at his coming out party.  Nick was very stoic that day, accepting that he was indeed king of Nick Nation.  I know quite a few of you made donations for his care - Nick would not have been able to experience all the joy life can bring without your help.  Thank you so much.
Nick and I
Nicholas crossed to the bridge this morning surrounded by the folks who loved him best.  Rest in peace, sweet Nicholas.

Amazing Nicholas

Back in December I shared the story of Nicholas - a pup that came into the Arizona Golden Retriever Connection family before Christmas who need a lot of love and help.  To read his story click here.  Nicholas has been receiving lots of TLC, and is on his way to having his own fairy-tail story!   In honor of his amazing recovery, and to give folks a chance to meet him, AZGRC held a party just for Nicholas!
Look at how handsome he is!
You can barely tell he had surgery!
Nicholas was a wonderful host - he greeted folks, begged for a few tidbits, and made sure to wander in and out of the house.  ...and when he got tired?  A nap in the sun!
Zzzz....
Of course, folks kept petting him!
That's right, I'm a good boy...
And yes, I did lots of petting too!
A little to the left, please!
In between petting Nicholas, we all had fun visiting and talking to the folks who played key roles in giving Nicholas a new life.  Thank you, everyone!
I couldn't resist these cute treats!
Nicholas is truly an amazing dog.  As he gains strength his quirky personality is starting to show through.
Who wants to get me sausage?
 ...and his playfulness...

Yup, I'm cool...
...and his loving nature.
These ear rubs are the best!
I think he knew we were all there for him!
Is that a grin I see?
After all, he is...

Meet Nicholas

I know we still need to post Part 2 of our Sherlock mystery, but we wanted to share with you a very special boys who needs prayers and love sent his way...

Aaron and I are proud supporters of Arizona Golden Retriever Connection.  Every Golden who passes thru the loving arms of this organization is special and in some cases, only needs a place to rest a weary head for a night before moving on to their forever homes.

Sometimes, however, a case comes thru that can pull at you heart and make you wish you could move heaven and earth to change the world for one small pup.   Some are truly broken when they come to AZGRC and need a little more love and a lot of help.

Meet Nicholas...  Nobody knows what happened to Nicholas, but the fates brought him to AZGRC.  Nicholas has a growth on his face of some sort (the next picture is graphic), weighed only 44 lbs (...in comparison, our rather lean Monty weighs 65), and was covered in mats and ticks.
Nicholas getting a little lovin'....
In the short time AZGRC has had Nicholas, he has already shown signs of improvement.  Who wouldn't with all this loving?
Getting snuggled in the van...

Typical Golden - always room for a treat...
There is still no answer as to what the growth/injury on his face is.

I'm still a handsome fellow!
Nicholas definitely needs a Christmas miracle.  He has a lot of healing he will need to do before he can look for his forever home.  If you would like to follow Nicholas' story or donate a little to help with his care, you can click this link

In the mean time, he could really use a little Power of the Paw.
Is this the way to my new home?

We are sending Nicholas lots of GOLDEN love!
