Monty in the AKC?

Well, after some careful thinking, we've decided to enroll Monty in the AKC's Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Program. We'd really like to be able to participate in rally, obedience and agility with Monty. Arizona does not hold many dog events of this type, but this will allow us to participate in more events!

This also means we are going to have to do some serious sessions with our goofy boy! He is doing very well with his sits and downs, but "stay" isn't in his agenda yet.

Our goal is to have him ready for his first event by February!

  1. Woof! Woof! DONE that ... just be prepared ... Lots of Golden Fun BUT Hard Work and a bit competitive particularly for many serious dog owners. Most important ... don't be discourage, a Goofy Golden is a Great thing.

  2. We should lobby for a "Goofy" class in competitions. We think that having your name on the rolls as an official golden retriever with the AKC sounds pawsome!

  7. Good luck - should be fun! I don't think Finn will ever be able to remain calm enough for that - she's definitely too goofy!

From Lightning: Have fun! I went through obedience training and some agility training, and we even participated in one match. The training was fun....I got all the attention and got to go for car rides. :)

  32. It's a great idea to register Monty for AKC performance events! The late Great Duncan the Wonder Dog was an ILP Beardie (ILP was the previous version of PAL), and he was the best herding dog I've ever had. Best of luck in the events!
