Our Week with House Pups

We've had quite the full week with our house guests.  Having two extra dogs really changes how you do things, what you do, and how much time you spend in the back yard picking up poop.

I is not a house guest.  I is Harlow!
For one, we discovered we couldn't walk the dogs - at least not all together.  Raven, the little black lab mix, would make a star sled dog and it made walking them all together a little difficult.  Whoever had Raven was guaranteed to come back with one arm just a little longer!
I is furless husky...
Over all that has been our only complaint.  The dogs have gotten along very well, there was no fuss over feeding, and they discovered good behavior was rewarded with treats...
Tessie, on the other hand, was as quiet as a ghost in our house.  For those of you who have asked, she is a Aussie/cattle dog mix.  She loves to play with Harlow, but if nothing was going on she'd curl up in a corner and sleep all day.
One of these pillows met with a horrible early death.  Is this the culprit?
When she isn't sleeping she comes up and just sits and stares at you.
...and no, we don't know why...
Harlow has enjoyed having other pups to play with, even though Monty, Raven and Tessie have spent quite a bit of time ignoring her puppy antics.  In fact, I'm pretty sure they are worried about her mental health.
For the love of dog, what is wrong with you?
I think Harlow has taken being ignored quite seriously...
I is bored...
...and you know with Harlow, she is not shy about letting you know how she really feels about the situation.
Yup...  still bored....
Tessie and Raven are welcome to come and spend time with us anytime.  I had hoped Aaron might be willing to agree to open our house to a third pup, but whenever I bring the subject up he just starts laughing...
We have no idea why!

  5. Yes, Aaron, three would be awesome!

I is bored!!!!! Harlow makes me chuckle.

I know someone who has 10 dogs (and she's not a hoarder - they're all well-cared for and go for trail runs everyday)... Can you imagine?

  6. Sounds like you had a great time with all your friends.

Now Harlow, you need to really pull the charm over dad, tell him how much you need a brother or sister...:)

  10. Well done, Raven. Labradogs can be very strong and persistent and help humans build upper body strength on walkies.

  12. When I go to look after Tom's family, I end up with eight dogs! It's a whole different kettle of fish (dogs!).

  13. I know that Look that Tessie is giving to you. She wants something and is hoping mental telepathy is received by you. I know because Toby does this too, but since we've lived with him since he was a puppy we can usually, not always, figure out what he is asking for.
Tessie is a beauty btw. Thanks for sharing her origins.

  15. Is that a cattle dog thing? Blueberry often stares at me too. Sometimes I hold up a couch pillow to block me from her view. :)

Glad the visit went well except for the arm-pulling dog. Yikes!

  17. If the only casualty was one pillow, sounds like the week was a success! Tessie is adorable. Hope you are able to talk Aaron into a third pup. :-)

  22. Wow! What a bunch and a good looking bunch at that.
That staring contest can be a bit scary. Joe is good at those long vacant looks.
Sable is the same way on a leash. I think I could tie her to my father's wheelchair and she'd take him back to Arkansas. But I never spent a lot of time training her on leash.

  23. Haha, the whole "I is furless husky" cracked me up! I've walked dogs before where I felt like I needed to switch hands every so often, just to keep the length of my arms uniform!

I wish Riley was as quiet as Tessie was at your house! Although, I definitely recognize that "stare." I've had Riley for over 4.5 years now, and I still don't know what the heck it means...she'll stare a hole in anyone. Sometimes I think it's because she wants attention, sometimes she might want to play, and 95% of the time I figure she just wants some food or treats...

Glad everyone had a good time with the house guests and that all the pups got along. And I know what you mean about it taking extra time to pick up the poop...when my sisters' dogs come over or when people bring their dogs with them to visit us, it's amazing how much extra poop turns up in the backyard!

  27. We have 5 dogs in our house right now, only one of them not ours! Tessie is such an awesome looking dog.

Are you guys going to do NaNoWriMo this year? We're looking for a crew of dogs (yes DOGS!) to write a story in a round robin in honor of NaNoWriMo. It probably won't be as long as a novel, but it will be a harrowing tale as told by our dogs. Each blogger is going to do a couple paragraphs before passing it on to the next blogger.

If you'd like to take a turn, please e-mail me at bossdog AT roccoshouse DOT com and we'll get you set up!
