She's excited that we'll be bringing in a new year!

Traversing the desert...

Dis is so much better!

Harlow vs Nature

As you know, our Harlow is a little princess.
Dere's a lump in my bed...
She has, however, decided that she wants to expand her interest and has become interested in hiking.  She has been studying Shawnee's blog (stop by and say hi!) and has decided that she was ready for her first outing.
She has a bandana, because all the cool explorers wear bandanas.
Harlow had a lot to learn.  For one, there are a lot of princess-sized bushes in the desert...
Da Momma, you better go in front and whack some bushes for me...
That the wind can blow your butt furs something fierce...
It's quite rude to da Princess...
That the desert is full of paw poking cactus...
Dese big fuzzy ones are not shnooter friendly either!
Trust me - I thought I was going to have to carry her out after her first cactus encounter.  She was also not pleased to find the desert wanted to stick with her...
Get it?  Stick?  Bwahahaha...  Sorry...
After I checked to make sure the ground was clear of deer poop and twigs, we sat down to take a break.
Da Momma forgot my cushion...  I haz to sit on my fuzzy tail...
Of course, Harlow needed some nourishment.
Any chicken jerky in here?  Da Shawnee always eats chicken jerky.
After a while we headed back...
Dis wouldn't be so bad if it waz carpeted...
I'm hoping next time we will make it out of my Mom's driveway.
Harlow swears we hiked miles...

The Day After

Christmas in our house is dedicated to the pups.  It's the one day of the year where they can shred paper and make a larger than usual mess - our gift to them.  The start of the festivities is always delayed a bit, with visits to my Mom, horses to feed, Aaron waking up, so I decided to take a little time and photograph all the beautiful Christmas cards we received.
Do not ask me what the painting is in the middle - I do not know.  ;)
Our final tally was 64 for the pups (including e-cards) and 8 for Aaron and me - and yes, we counted party invites as cards for us.  Monty thinks we are cheating...

Aaron helped Monty open his gifts this year, but we were pleased to see that Harlow remembered how it was done.
I can shred dis?
...even though she got a little distracted in the middle...
Ooo - present...
Both pups got new blankets - blue for Monty and pink for Harlow.  Previously she showed no interest in having her own blanket, but a couple of weeks ago we had a little bit of rain and we gave her a towel to lay on.  After everything was dry I put the towel in the laundry and she kept pulling it out and trying to hide it.  We realized then that Harlow really wanted a blanket of her own.
...because sometimes a pup wants her own fort...

I think this might be the happiest pup on the planet.
Of course, when you have blankets involved, it brings about a session of blanket wrestling...
Rawwwwrrrr!

Christmas bitey face....

Harlow loves when Monty wraps himself in his blanket.
After the wrestling was done, they settled down to enjoy their toys.
Our boy was really happy with the new blanket!
There were also bully sticks to chew on - did I mention our pups were really good this year?

I think our pups really enjoyed their Christmas.  Later in the day we noticed a very happy and sleepy pup, getting ready to take a nap with her wubba...
Zzzzz....
We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

Monty Update, Part 2

Despite our best efforts, our Monty is still draining and still wrapped up.  Our vet is still concerned with how the lumps presented themselves and keeps reviewing his chart.  Our main concern, which was cancer,  has been ruled out but she has also double checked to make sure that there wasn't another underlying issue, such as Valley Fever.  I'll admit, after reviewing the symptoms of VF I'm starting to wonder - I'm also hoping I'm having a serious case of Puppy Momma Hypochondria.  Which I would prefer...

Monty had a recheck yesterday and a new bandage applied.  His incision is directly beneath him and is difficult to reach.  Poor Monty has to suffer a little indignity at the vet to be rechecked...
I save my specials poots for moments like dis...
The vet techs have been waging a bandage war with the vet on appropriate bandage colors for our pups.  They wanted pink for Harlow, and she had every color but...
I iz sad cuz dis blue clashes with my royal fuzz.
With Monty they have been trying to have Christmas colors applied, and somehow, a band of blue emerged. So they added a few decorations...
It takes a strong pup to wear an ugly sweater...
I almost think Monty was relieved when we put his t-shirt back on over the bandages.
If I bury my head in da grass, nobody can see me.
We go back again on Tuesday for another recheck.  Please keep paws crossed that the drain can come out.

Swiss Army Pup

It occured to me as I was looking through photos this morning that Harlow actually performs a lot of various functions here.  She has sort of become a "Swiss Army Pup"...

What are those functions you ask?

Well, for starters she helps with the house cleaning...
Nobody appreciates de work I do here....
Helps remind us that facials are important...
Mud does wonderz for da toes too!
Taste tester...
Dese noms are good!
TV censor...
Close da eyes, Momma, it gets scary here!
Public Service Announcement - her mission is to warn us about the dangers of fruit...
Seriously - can you eat cantaloupe after seeing this?
Structural Support Engineer...
How that wall manages to stay upright without her support we will never know!
She imitates meerkats so that we can study them...
I iz good meerkat in da back yard Savanna...
Shredder...
I didn't like that book anyway.  I wish!  Wahhh!
Sentry...
Ducks.  11 of the clock, Momma.  Just saying...
Puppysitter...
Okay, we are working on this one.
...and most importantly she comes in a small easy to carry package!

Monty update

Those of you who follow us on Facebook know that on December 2 we had Monty at the vet for the removal of a couple of worrisome lumps.  Thankfully, those lumps came back as negative for cancer, but that doesn't mean we are worrying any less for our boy.  Monty has proven himself to be a troublesome patient - constantly making attempts to rid himself of his bandages and protective shirt.

Angel Sam's surgery shirt is becoming the tradition for our pups to wear after any surgery.
We had a sense of Deju Vu seeing Monty in Sam's shirt....
Monty has been wearing Sam's shirt proudly...
It's very slenderizing....
Despite our best attempts to keep him from worrying his bandages, Monty has been making every effort to get to them.  If we put a cone collar on him...
Where did my light go?
...he attacks the bandages with his back paws.  We somehow managed to keep his incision safe and he looked good at his recheck last weekend.
Dual vet appointment - this was the day Harlow got her cast off.

Last Tuesday he should have had his stitches out, but Dr. Kerne decided he needed to have a drain put in - and drain he did.  He became quite the soggy mess.
How Monty look without a t-shirt.

We've also been having issues keeping him quiet.  He and Harlow seemed determined to go at it.  We've set up an x-pen across the living room to separate him.  Monty thinks this is highly unfair and has been spending all his time making us feel guilty about his jail time.
I iz wearing prison orange.  I haz been wrongly accused!
We had another vet appointment this morning.  He still has his drain in and his shirts are getting washed as I type.  We have another appointment Tuesday evening for another check.  Keep fingers crossed Monty will leave his stitches and drain alone until then.  We are hoping it can all come out then and we can give him a good bath and grooming.  :)
