Those of you who follow us on Facebook know that on December 2 we had Monty at the vet for the removal of a couple of worrisome lumps. Thankfully, those lumps came back as negative for cancer, but that doesn't mean we are worrying any less for our boy. Monty has proven himself to be a troublesome patient - constantly making attempts to rid himself of his bandages and protective shirt.

Angel Sam's surgery shirt is becoming the tradition for our pups to wear after any surgery.

We had a sense of Deju Vu seeing Monty in Sam's shirt.... |

Monty has been wearing Sam's shirt proudly...
|
It's very slenderizing.... |
Despite our best attempts to keep him from worrying his bandages, Monty has been making every effort to get to them. If we put a cone collar on him...

Where did my light go? |
...he attacks the bandages with his back paws. We somehow managed to keep his incision safe and he looked good at his recheck last weekend.

Dual vet appointment - this was the day Harlow got her cast off. |
Last Tuesday he should have had his stitches out, but Dr. Kerne decided he needed to have a drain put in - and drain he did. He became quite the soggy mess.

How Monty look without a t-shirt. |
We've also been having issues keeping him quiet. He and Harlow seemed determined to go at it. We've set up an x-pen across the living room to separate him. Monty thinks this is highly unfair and has been spending all his time making us feel guilty about his jail time.

I iz wearing prison orange. I haz been wrongly accused! |
We had another vet appointment this morning. He still has his drain in and his shirts are getting washed as I type. We have another appointment Tuesday evening for another check. Keep fingers crossed Monty will leave his stitches and drain alone until then. We are hoping it can all come out then and we can give him a good bath and grooming. :)
We are crossing all paws and hooves that the next appointment will be the charm for Monty!

OH Man. That's tough. But I'm glad there was no cancer.
ReplyDeleteSounds like he's feeling like a million bucks!
Future bath, grooming and BIG hugs to come! Don't forget the hugs!
ReplyDeleteReading your post takes me right down memory lane when we've had dogs that aren't exactly the best post-op patients. But I know your handsome boy is doing his best to cooperate and in the best of hands! We're sending cheers from our corner of Virginia for his good report, and prayers for continued healing!!
ReplyDeletePoor Monty - that is no fun at all - we hope you heal up quick and are back to your old self in no time
ReplyDeleteWe are sending you lots of healing vibes and AireZen, Monty, and paws are crossed that everything goes well for you. We love your new Christmas header photo ☺

Wish we could let him know that he'll be OUT of all that stuff, if he leaves it alone! Hugs to all of you. Sounds stressful.
ReplyDeleteLove your email card. We printed it out and put it up on our wall.
OMD Monty that's the biggest cone of shame I have ever seen! Please be good and don't mess with your bandages. Paws crossed for you buddy.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,

Fingers and paws crossed here for Monty. I emailed you an idea that worked for us when our dog Penny had a drain.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you! I really appreciate any suggestions that can be offered.

We're sorry you're having such a tough and trying time. I do hope all will be well ready for you to enjoy Christmas.
ReplyDeleteOh Monty having to wear Sam's shirt and the cone buddy you need to ask Santa Paws for the gift of health this year. The two of you are spending your holiday savings account at the vets.
ReplyDeleteMy Lee is now home and I am known by people in my hood because I am the only Scot in the neighborhood.

Oh poor baby. Dogs seem to have such a tough time just doing what's best for them! Hope everything heals swiftly.
ReplyDeleteOh, Monty! So sorry this isn't going speedier for you! You DO look really handsome in your t-shirt, though. Really!
ReplyDeleteCammie!
I hope those drains are out soon, and you can resume having fun, Monty! I'm soooo happy that the lumps were benign.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that Monty is cancer free. Here's to hoping he heals quickly and seamlessly.
