Sad News

This past Monday we finally got a diagnosis for Sam's problems.  Sam has a brain tumor.
Sammish
According to the vet, chances for him to survive surgery are slim.   At best, she thinks we have another 3-4 months with him.
Waiting for news...

It's been a roller coaster of emotions for us these past few months.  I think deep down in our hearts, Aaron and I knew it was more than just a tendonitis issue.
Cruising the neighborhood
We shared the news briefly on Facebook, so some of you already know.  This past week has been hard on us, but we want Sam to have the best time possible, for however long he has left.  We are hoping for more time than what the vet thinks.
Happy boy
Sam loves people, so we are going to try to take him to see as many people as possible.  We are limited by the heat, but we are going to do our best for our boy.
Best friends forever...

We want to thank everyone for their words of support and love.  It has meant so much to us that Sam is loved by so many folks.

  14. Sad new indeed - I had a beautiful doberman many years ago with a brain tumor - we started noticing strange things like he wouldn't go in shadows or shade - had times when he couldn't get his back legs to work. Keep a watch for unusual things as a signal for when it is getting bad.

Continue to make all those special memories and cherish them in your heart. With much love from Cathy, Jim, "Grammie", CJ & Simon

  27. I'm so sorry! If I lived closer I would've loved to meet Sam. When my lab Casey was diagnosed with Osteo last summer we spent the next few weeks spoiling him rotten. We had so much fun making him happy. I know how heartbreaking this is, but you'll still be making happy memories for awhile. Good luck and give him an extra hug from me!

  37. From someone who has lost 3 dogs to cancer (one with a brain tumor), enjoy every moment you have with him and remember, he may feel weird and have trouble standing and the like, but HE will not have the anxiety and sadness that goes along with cancer. That is all yours. Whatever happens to him he will accept it as the new normal. Try to make it just that. He will pick up YOUR sadness and anxiety though so, as hard as it is, try to live day by day like he does. Plan for the future, but don't fret about it. Hugs.

Some alternative supplements that we are using are Immunity4pets(Avemar), IP-6 and AHCC. All have shown promising results in cancer and shrinking tumors. Hoping for the best for Sam.

  69. Oh, we commented on Facebook but this is the first chance we've had to come over to your blog. This post breaks our hearts but we know that you'll be treasuring your time with Sam and doing the best by him. I can't imagine how hard it must be for you!! Still, just remember that he really doesn't know and so isn't sharing your stress & worry & dread - I guess that's where dogs are blessed. He's just feeling loved and enjoying still doing things with you.

Anyway, just want to let you know that we are thinkgin of you every day, even if we don't always get to comment.

  71. I'm so terribly behind on my reading that I just heart this heartbreaking news. I truly know how you feel because the same thing happened with our Tucker. He was 14 and not a candidate for surgery, so we all (dogs included) spent as much time as possible with him. There was a very special sweetness present. My heart goes out to you.
