Updates

Hi everyone.  First of all, I need to apologize for being so hit-and-miss with blogging lately.  I am still reading everyone's blogs, but due to Sam's illness, I feel like my comments are coming out as snarky or depressing.  I'm trying very hard not to do that to our friends, so I am just staying quiet for now.

Sam is fading from us.  I think we are looking at weeks, maybe days, instead of months.  How I hope I'm wrong.  Sam remains cheerful, quick to wag his tail and expect his treat, even though his body is slowly failing him.
Can I have a slice of pizza, Dad?
Monty and Harlow are fully aware something is wrong with their big brother.  They both spend time with Sam, laying near him or hovering.
Sam and Monty - brothers forever!
...and yes, Sam has a produce sticker on his head in the above picture...
Keeping her big brother company...
Harlow seems to know when I need to smile, and pops up in the most unexpected places.
...any chance I could have a treat while I'm here?

We have more news to share, including AZGRC's calendar - featuring our boy Monty as Mr October, our prize from winning a contest held by Jack and the Tall Guy, and a lot of photos of Monty and Harlow playing together.  I promise we will be better at updating the blog.

  1. This is so sad to read. I know Sam is still enjoying himself and is happy and loved, but I know that having to watch him fade, that wont be much comfort to you all.
    What good siblings he has!

  14. We think of Sam all the time and wondered how he is doing. Mom says she totally gets your feeling about commenting. She has the same trouble and even finds it hard to post. But just do what you are doing - Sam is the priority now. Spend all your time with your sweet boy.

  18. To start, you do not owe any apology! Your priorities are exactly where they should be, and that's spending that time with your precious boy Sam. (and Monty & Harlow too!) So please do as you have been, continue to spend that time and those moments, and don't worry about your blog, visiting our blogs or anything. We will all either be here, or on FB when you need that shoulder or just to tell someone how it's going. Just know that I am sending prayers for Sam that you will have those days together.

  25. I completely understand! We've had several illnesses that popped up over the years, and life here stopped for that. You will never look back and say "I wish I'd commented on more blogs," but you will always be glad that you held on to a few more special moments with your boy. In some ways, a long term illness is tough, but it's also a way to try live the end with no regrets, to remember to take a little more time to smell the flowers together and use kinder words and voices. Please know that we're thinking of you and sending you our prayers and good wishes. I know that it isn't easy!

  36. I'm really sorry about Sam's declining health. :( How old is he? Is this due to his illness or his age... or both? I have both of you in my thoughts daily and keep sending prayers for you both. I'm glad the other two are being such good siblings to him and helping to keep you smiling. If you need anything just let us know.

  38. I must say, when I see that there is no post from you I secretly feel happy about it. To me no news is sometimes good news because I really dredge for that day when I will see "that" post about Sam.
My heart really aches for you. It is so hard to deal with this but at least you still have some time to spend with him and tell him how much you love him. Samantha was gone so sudden that I felt like I didn't tell her enough of how much I loved her. Cherish your time with Sam so that you won't have those "I wish I had..." moments later...
