Broken Toe Update

We've been busy this week keeping an eye on Harlow and trying to make sure she rests her paw.  We had an appointment on Tuesday with our regular vet.  We knew Harlow was uncomfortable with her paw.  Her uncharacteristic sad face was telling us everything we needed to know.
Dis my rarely seen "Sad Face"...
Our vet took an x-ray and confirmed that her toe was broken.
They kept her for the day, and when I picked her up in the evening, Harlow was sporting a rather large bandage.  Since she is leaving it alone for the most part, I've put a sock over it to keep her from nibbling on the ends of the tape.  This is also keeping her out of a cone collar.
The smile returns!
The vet estimates possibly 4-6 weeks of healing time, as long as nothing causes further issues.  Please keep paws crossed that she recovers quickly - she's a hard pup to keep still!
I iz bored, Momma,bored!
We've been trying to keep her occupied with toys and attention.  Her beloved toe massages have been reduced to a three paw toe massage and a chest rub...
Dis iz good stuff.
Endless supplies of tennis balls...
Harlow's Starbuck's addiction may be getting out of hand.
She's been a real champ about taking her medicine.  We don't want Monty feeling left out, so he has been getting treats from this month's review of Blue Wilderness Salmon Biscuits while Harlow gets her medicine.
They are very stinky and Monty absolutely adores them. Per

  8. Hi Harlow!! I had a big boot, too when the vet stole my toe! I loved it. Mom called me Bootsie or Kinkey Boots. Milk it for all it;s worth. Oh, and sorry you broke your toe :-(

  9. She is looking happier in the big boot photos. Joey had to be in a cast for quite a while and yes, it was hard to keep him quiet. I feel for you. I hope she heals quickly.

  10. Did you say "stinky"?!?! I'm in! I must have my mom find some for us!
We sure hope your healing process goes well, Harlow. I suggest snuggling up to your mama and watching some TV!!!
    Yours sincerely,
    Maggie T.

  11. Go for it Monty, you might get there quicker than Harlow at the moment. Aw, Harlow, how did you do that ?
Looks like that Frankie de tabby's paw is in demand again.

  15. Ahhhhhh, Salmon cookies. How wonderful. We think they heal broken toes, so should be administered liberally.

We'll keep her in our thoughts so that toe heals quickly!

  16. WE are crossing all of our paws and hooves that the recovery goes on schedule and we will see nothing but the Harlow of Happiness very soon!

  17. Crikey .... you sure did a good job on that toe, aye, Harlow? That's a BAD break. That's quite the bandage you got goin' there. Looks like you're hiding one of your tennis balls in it. It's good to see you smilin' again. You did like awful sad in that first pic, aye??

  18. Poor Harlow! POTP she heals up well and quickly.

  19. Paws and fingers crossed here. Harlow does seem to be in a better place with the toe fracture put back in place and held with the bandage.

  20. What a difference a bandage can make:) So good to see Harlow's pretty smile. Hope the bone mends well and quickly.

Woos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning

  21. I hope you toe heals fast! I will send some magic healing bubbles to come and help it heal.

  22. I'm actually surprised that happy Harlow has the self control to leave her bandage alone. Awesome. And I bet they both adore those treats. Paws are crossed here that the healing time is short. She's so young that I bet it will be!

  23. Yup, the salmon ones are very stinky. That's the boys "After Photo Shoot" treat. They love them.

  24. Aw poor Harlow! She's a good girl to leave the bandage alone and she looks so much happier after her day at the vet.

  25. Poor Harlow. But it's good to see her smile back. The vet must have done a great job setting that toe.

  26. Oh no! Poor Harlow. IT looks like she's being a good sport about it though. I hope time goes by quickly and that she heals well.

  27. Oh gosh, how DO you keep a dog off her paw for weeks on end? Amazing she is leaving that huge paw bandage alone. And very sweet that she loves paw massages! I thought Fozzie was the only one :)

  28. Harlow you look so happy now. Is Monty showing you any sympathy at all?
