Bump and Toes, Vets and Woes

Yesterday morning we had a vet appointment for our Monty.  We discovered a bump on Monty's ribs and wanted to have it checked out.
Name, rank and serial number...  Dat's all dey'll get from me
After much examination, some nail trimming and a very wild getaway attempt, it was determined that Monty's bump would have to be removed.
Dey tried to bribe me with cookies...
Monty is scheduled for December 2nd to go under the knife.  Keep paws crossed that his bump is nothing to worry about!

Now, I wish I could say that was the end of our day and we were able to tell you about some exciting adventure we were able to take the pups on, but that isn't how the day turned out.

Aaron and I had just returned from grocery shopping when Harlow, in a bout of pure happiness, caught her toe in the edge of her crate and twisted it.  She yelped and immediately started limping. I inspected her paw and felt something that wasn't right - her toe felt loose.  After a frenzied phone call we put her in the car and rushed her to the vet.
Hurry, Momma.  Da paw is not well!
The vet confirmed what we were thinking - her toe was broken.  There wasn't a lot they could do and sent her home with pain medicine and instructions to keep quiet.
Momma gave me dis pink bandage.
Trying to keep Harlow quiet is sort of like trying to cage smoke - it isn't possible.  We are keeping her on a leash and keeping a close eye on her, but she's still managing to use her paw more than we would like.  I went ahead and wrapped her paw very loosely this morning to remind her not to jump on it.
Da paw isn't working right.
Since we didn't see our normal vet yesterday, I fully plan to bring her to our normal vet this week just to make sure there isn't anything we can do to help make her feel more comfortable.

  5. We will cross all paws and hooves that all will go well with Monty's surgery.

As for poor sweet Harlow, broken toes are a real bitch, for humans too. Crossing everything for a quick recovery for the little princess.

    Woofs,

  10. Ah, yes. That "low activity" thing. Apparently neither Abby nor I is very good at that. Which is why Mom has a stockpile of make-you-go-sleepy heavy-duty drugs. We think Mom should stockpile pink bandages, too! ;-)

  12. We are so sorry that your last week was not great. I am not sure what it was with last week but I know a lot of pups and people who had strange medical issues (including a friend who fell in the house and broke a shoulder and needs surgery!) Where was the moon?

  13. Oh, this is all just so sad and scary!!!! We will pray for your recovery, Harlow. I hope your parents are waiting on you hand and foot! And Monty! We will pray that it's just some benign bump that gets bipeds all worked up for nothing!!!

  16. Oh my, when it rains, it pours. I hope that Monty's lump is no big deal and that the Princess can find a way to stay calm enough for her toe to heal. So sorry that this weekend wasn't as fun as you might have liked.

  17. All paws crossed for a good report on that lump. Poor Harlow - that must really hurt!!! Hope your vet has a better solution for keeping her comfy.

  18. Power of the Paw for both dear Monty and Princess Harlow. Lucy refuses to touch the cookies at the vet. Guess she doesn't want to be bought so easily.

  19. I hope they both heal quick. My vet back in Nevada used to be able to feel lumps and tell by the feel if they were fatty tumors or not. Another vet had to do a biopsy to know for sure. My mother had a Sheltie with RA, and her toes pointed out in all directions. Still she ran all over the place like it didn't cause her any pain.

  21. Crikey ..... I missed this. Mum's been a bit slack lately. Sure hope Harlow is on the mend by now. I know all about having to keep quiet. It doesn't work for me either. And poor Monty has to have an operation ..... oh no!!!!!! I'll be thinking of him.those operations are the worst, aye?? BUT I s'pose they do make us better when we are poorly.

  22. Thanks for stopping by my blog! Wow...what a day for you and the pups. It seems like that it always happens that way--from crisis to crisis some days. Hope the toe is doing better and that the lump will prove to be something inconsequential!

  23. Well Monty I hate to hear that. I hope all will be well.
Poor Harlow. You're like me. You have got to quit running around the house barefoot because every time you do...

  24. Poor babies! The only way to keep Chewy off his feet is with continuous bellyrubs forever. Best wishes for your recoveries!
