Why did we agree?
As Monty has gotten a little older, his stomach has gotten a little more sensitive. While we are careful to watch what he eats, Monty sometimes helps himself to forbidden items. Tissues are one of his favorites. Additionally, loud noises (fireworks, thunder) scare him and his vet-prescribed meds can give him a marvelous case of the runs afterwards.
To my amazement, on the chewy.com website, this product has received 231 comments, with 229 folks recommending this product. I checked out a couple of other websites and saw that this product consistently brings in good reviews.
This product is also amazingly affordable on the chewy.com website. Right now it is going for $20.26, with it's normal price being $25.99
Per chewy.com:
Forti-Flora
is a probiotic. If you are not too familiar, probiotics are live
microorganisms that, when ingested, have beneficial effect on intestinal
function by
promoting improved intestinal microbial balance. The probiotic used in
FortiFlora is Enterococcus Faecium SF 68. Nestle Purina has been
conducting research in the area of probiotics since it opened in 1987 in
Lausanne, Switzerland. It was one of the first
research centers in the world to look at the molecular interaction of
probiotic bacteria with intestinal cells. Since then, Nestle has
published over 200 articles on it probiotics research.
FortiFlora
helps to re-establish a normal microflora balance in the
gastrointestinal tract. The beneficial bacteria help to nourish the
intestinal cells ad protect
against the colonization by pathogenic bacteria, which can cause
diarrhea. In general, FortiFlora should be given once a day for 30 days.
What did we get?
This product is amazingly easy to use! In each box, there are 30 individual packets - one for each day. The packets are small and are meant to be sprinkled over your dog's food. We were a little worried about Monty eating it, since our boy is picky about his food, but he has no issues at all with it.
If you notice, this is Part 1 of this review. Chewy.com has asked us to take a month to evaluate it. Monty has been using this product for several days now and we will be publishing Part 2 shortly. Thank you, chewy.com for giving us an opportunity to review this product!
...and of course - our handsome Monty thanks you!

Would using this product help a dog (Bella) with anal gland issues? She has to have them "expressed" every once in a while (much to her dismay). Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteI think this question would best be answered by your vet. I did a quick internet search on the topic and it seems that no one really knows if it would help or not. Thanks for asking!

we hope it works :)
ReplyDeleteMy big concern with this product is the ingredient "animal digest". When this product was offered to us, we declined because of this. There are so many quality probiotics on the market that I'm not sure why Purina feels the needed to add something derived from "dead, diseased, disabled & dying" animals.

ReplyDeleteI hope Monty gets some help with his sensitive stomach. This is a big problem for lots of goldens and I hope Honey can avoid it as she gets older.
ReplyDeleteI'll check back for the rest of the story.
We hope it works wonders for you, Monty!
ReplyDeleteWe'll be interested in finding out the results!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great review and we agree that Chewy is just the best. So glad this is a product that should work for you. We've given our older dogs probiotics in the past too-they always seem to help.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.

Our great-brother Zimmie used that product for a while and it really helped him. Umm... in full disclosure, he used the one for cats and responded to that one better. Maybe we Siberians really ARE the missing link between dogs and cats!
ReplyDeleteWe hope it works well for you, Monty!
Yours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher
I do hope this helps. I get an upset tummy if I get treats with grains - people sometimes give me a treat without asking Mom if it's OK, because I'm so cute.

We've used this many, many times, keep it in our "drug-drawer" and so you can add us to the number of people that have had good results with it. Hope it works for your boy too!
ReplyDeleteWe too have heard good things about fortiflora. Mom tried it for Phantom but he was over and beyond picky and wouldn't eat anything if it had fortiflora on it. We do hope it helps Monty. We each get a dollop of nonfat plain yogurt in our morning kibble and Mom thinks it has helped Ciara a lot with digestive problems.
ReplyDeleteGood luck - we love Chewy too.
Happy Halloween.

hello monty and harlow its dennis the vizsla dog hay this sownds like gud stuf!!! saya gits sumthing similar frum monica segal in the mithikal land of cananda!!! ok bye
ReplyDeleteWe give Lucy a probiotic but we give her NutriVet. I'll have to look at the differences. She has always had a sensitive stomach but changing her to a bison based, grain-free food with the probiotic and occasionally a bit of pumpkin has eliminated the problem for more than a year now. (Knocking on wood) NutriVet gets good reviews but there aren't many of them. We'll definitely check out this one.
ReplyDeleteHope it helps Monty! Maggie is a picky eater and has a sensitive stomach, so we'll be interested to see how it works for you.
ReplyDeleteHi - I'm wondering how this worked for you? We just got it for one of our Goldens and are hoping that her tummy issues take care of themselves w/o a trip to the vet.
