Diet and Kong Toys

In an effort to try to make my headache's better and maybe find out what causes them, Aaron and I are going on a strict vegetable diet. As we head into Day 4, we are both doing okay. Monty, on the other hand, is in distress that all that is in the house are vegetables. He's taken to laying out in the planter box and refusing to come in.

Sam on the other hand, is happy with salad! We've noticed his weight is edging up, so this will be a good opportunity for us to trim him down.

In an effort to make it up to Monty, we bought both of the boys Kong toys. These are the first ones they have had.

Sam immediately cleaned his out, doing it from this unusual standing up position. I tried to show him it would be easier if he laid down, but he seemed quite offended by the suggestion.

Monty, however, found his Kong to be a moment of pure bliss!

  4. Oh, I hope you feel better. My friend found out she was allergic to the chemicals they spray on California grapes! She will only drink French wine. She also has reactions - headaches - from msg, but who doesn't! I have to say our allergy season is terrible here on the east coast. I assume you've had an MRI to rule out sinus infection ... keep us posted.

  6. Riley is going to have to go on a diet! Not for headaches though...for pure fatness!

Riley is only interested in her Kong these days if there is something inside of it.

    Poor Monty.

  9. Kongs Are great. If you Freeze them before giving them to the dogs, it will last longer... I am sure Monty will get use to his greens.... Feel better...

  17. I do hope you can rid yourself of the headaches. I have a friend who went to a plant-only diet. She feels great but it takes a lot of effort to make sure it is balanced. One thing she loves best is almond milk in her cereal.

We've never put goodies in our Kongs. You've given me an idea.

  21. Poor Monty, I hope Kong brings him some joy and happy relief from eating (yuck) vegetables! (Although yoYoMa eats EVERY veggie momma has offered him with gusto)!

We hope the change in diet takes care of the headaches. I know we all benefitted immensely when we stopped using salt and processed foods.

  22. Oh, no, not a diet. I hate diets! But if they're necessary, then they're necessary. Good luck with it, just make sure the 4-legged boys don't become fully vegetarian!

I was looking at kongs the other day, thinking whether George would like one. After seeing your dogs with theirs, I might buy him one and see how he gets on.

  23. If there's one thing that our puppy has learned about already, is Kongs--He loves them, and because he's a growing boy he can have the extras put into them--That and he doesn't like carrots! :-)

  24. Hope that the diet change is a success!

  25. I hope the diet gives you the relief you seek.

As for Monty, do you think he'd notice if you snuck a bit of carrot into the middle of his kong treat?

  26. Black Kongs? I've never seen them before. Cool!
Sable could be happy with salad but Lucy would not bite. But they would both love big crnchy coutons and bacon bits. Good luck on the diet.

  33. Dieting is No Fun! Hope those pounds just fall away so you can get back to chasing rabbits instead of eating like one. :)

  34. If my mommy gives me my kong on the floor, I never lay down! I don't even hold it with my paws! I'm constantly chasing it all over the place. So she sticks my kong into the bars of my house (cage), and I have to sit to lick it. ;)

    Woofs & hugs <3,

    ~Bailey (Yep, I'm a girl!)

  35. What did you put in the Kongs? Is peanut butter considered vegetarian? Love Sam's pose - I figured MONTY would be the hurry-up Kong eater!

  36. Veggies are great, but Kongs are better!! My favorite veggies are pea pods and carrots. I also love every kind of fruit...yum yum yum!
