Our Sam isn't doing well. He had been slipping on the tiles but we thought at first it was just that, he was slipping on the tiles. Then it turned to stumbling. We brought him to the vet, but she is puzzled by his symptoms.
|
I is not feeling well. |
He has an odd head tilt and almost a paddling gait. Almost as if he is swatting with his front paws. It's more noticeable on the left, but it is both paws that are affected.
|
Everything is so slippery. |
Our vet thinks he either has a pinched nerve or, even worse, a tumor growing in his brain. As you can imagine, this has been a bad week for us.
|
Is very tired. |
Sam knows something is wrong, although he keeps trying to be Sam. He wants to play and eat and get treats. It's breaking our heart to see him stumbling when he moves around. The vet gave us some medicine to try, although it seems that he has gotten slightly worse this week.
He still can be an imp...
|
Must tear this paper up... |
We are holding out that it might be vestibular disease, which a friend of ours mentioned on Facebook. I think we could really use some POTP, and any lucky rabbits feet you might have lying around.
|
Mom and Dad love me. |

The whole time I was reading your post, I thought "vestibular syndrome." We've had 4 or so dogs that have had it, and it sounds just like it and so I will hope, hope, hope that's what it is and he's better in a few days. But just know that we are all using the POTP here, that Sam gets better and you know we have lots of paws!! Take care, and let us know how your boy is!!!
ReplyDeletePrayers for Sam and you both and Monty. I thought maybe he had a stroke? My dog had one; stumbled, head tilt. Over time she recovered and lived a lot longer.
ReplyDeleteWith thoughts. Call if we can do anything.
Prayers for Sam and his Mom. I know it's upsetting for everyone human and canine. Sam I hope your all better soon.
ReplyDeleteWe too were just reading the other day about odd head tilts being related to a balance issue.
Our paws are crossed it will be all better soon.
Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteNola
You've got our prayers! We hope it is the lesser and more treatable of evils.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Poor Sam. I have pinched nerves for the back legs and that causes them to do stupid things like slip out from under me, toe scuff, or suddenly shoot up and sideways.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Sam. Poor guy. Poor you guys. 24 Paws Crossed for our best buddy Sam. We are thinking of you Sam.
ReplyDeleteSending my very best POTP you way Sam.
ReplyDeleteYour Friend,

Hi Sam and family,
ReplyDeleteOur big brother Mack had something very similar. He had a cyst growing on his spinal colum. He took prednosone, and it helped him. He was even measured for a cart, but he moved over thr rainbow bridge before one was ordered. If y'all have a vet that does acupuncture, that helped Mack a lot. He lived for 3 years with his issue, so it is necessarily(we can't spell) the end.
Good luck
Sorry to hear this. The very first thing I thought to mention was vestibular disease. I am pet sitting an older dog that had been diagnosed as having had a possible stroke but that we believe had this instead. Keep researching as this is something he might recover from fully with time.

Oh man, it is so difficult to see them not acting like themselves, especially when the doctor isn't sure what the problem is. I had a dog who had trouble walking (due to severe arthritis) on tile/wood, so we ended up putting cheap runners down on his typical "paths" it helped him out a lot.
ReplyDeleteDon't be afraid to go get a second opinion.
Poor Sam :( Sending positive healing thoughts your way.
OMD we feel for you. What can we say? Nothing will make you feel better until Sam is well again. Poor baby. We pray that the vet finds out what is wrong and that they can do something about it. Our thoughts are with you. We send big love and POTP.
ReplyDeleteTake care and let us know how Sam is doing.
Best wishes Molly

ReplyDeleteSending all the positive vibes I can to Sam and you. Hope he's feeling better ASAP!
Sending positive healing vibes Sam's way. Hope its nothing too serious xx
ReplyDeleteThis sounds VERY similar to what Starr was doing. We treated her with Prenisone and slowly weaned her off of it and haven't had anymore episodes. It is like they will be standing there and then like a person who isn't trying to fall asleep scares themselves and jumps, that is how Starr was. Then Starr also had an episode on the couch where she went to circle to lay down and her face landed in the side of the couch her eyes were rolling back and forth, up and down, it was so scary. We laid her down and calmed her down. Luckily since on the Prednisone she hasn't done that again either. I heard that the acupuncture is good for dogs who have vestibular as well.
