13 Days of Halloween, "I think we've all arrived at a very special place. Spiritually, ecumenically, grammatically."

Day 13! Happy Halloween!! (OK, that's enough exclamation points to last until this time next year, at least.)

Ed. note - after yesterday's fiasco, this one was done for the Mom's benefit.

"You are without doubt the worst pirate I've ever heard of." "But you have heard of me."

Ed. Note - The following are some that I've had a few years, just taking up space in my thumb drive...thought I'd throw 'em out for S&G's.

"How I lost my leg."

Morlock and Eloi, the love that dare not speak it's name...

No matter where you stand on the Ginger or Mary Ann, Mansfield vs. Monroe spectrum, ya gotta admit, these gals are sizzlin'. (I so wanted to use an exclamation point at the end of that sentence... regardless, I think the one in the pic should be considered a freebie, so to speak.)

Management would like to express our appreciation for your patience over the past couple of weeks. We'll be returning to our regular programing soon, and hope to see you with us. Thank you.

13 Days of Halloween, "Sense. This picture makes none."

Day 12 of 13 (Gollum's over-served Koko on the Banana Daiquiris again.)

"I have no idea what the guy who edits these things was thinking with this post...Monty and I asked for something a little more fun, you know, instead of another scary one? And this is what he comes up with? And I know this isn't exactly a documentary we're doing here, but where in the heck did Gollum get a light saber?"

"I'll see if I can get Monty and Mom to lean on him; after all, we only have one day left on this series...."

Ed. Note - Hah! I like it just the way it is! Nothin' wrong with a little crazy this time of year.

13 Days of Halloween, "The Silence of the Lambchops"

Day 11 of 13 (First principles, Clarice. Simplicity. Read Marcus Aurelius. Of each particular thing ask: what is it in itself? What is its nature?)

A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his used Kleenex with some fava beans and a nice drink from the toilet bowl.

13 Days of Halloween, "The machines rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire..."

Day 10 of 13 (Posted a little early just so I could yell, Run Sarah, RUN!!!)

Listen, and understand. The Saminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead (or you give him a treat).

It's not a pet - it's a machine. A Cyberdog Systems Model 101.

You still don't get it, do you? He'll find you! That's what he does! It's ALL he does! You can't stop him! He'll wade through you! He'll reach down your throat and tear your livin' heart out (unless, you know, you distract him with a tennis ball or something)!

13 Days of Halloween, "Jurassic Bark"

Day 8 of 13 (Finally, a role worthy of his fierceness. The Montysaurus Rex!)

Ed. note: You think I should tell Monty that all the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park were female? He's been a little touchy on that subject over the course of this series. Hmmmm, maybe not.

13 days of Halloween, "The Wizard of Oz"

Day 7 of 13 (we'll meet again, my pretty)

The Mother-in-Law and her evil Yorkie plot revenge against Sam for peeing on the azaleas, and for being so much better looking than the Yorkie.

13 Days of Halloween, "The Hound of Hell"

Day 6 of 13 (where things often aren't quite what they seem)

Click the image for a larger, better picture.

"Nah, you want gate number 666, just across the street. Proprietor is a old guy named Beelzebub, keeps a big three headed dog out front; you can't miss it."

"Us? We guard this place, the Gates of Heck. Sometimes it's called the "Neighbor of the Beast." You know, the place for folks who don't return their shopping carts to the pens, or who put the cap next to the toothpaste instead of on it. But if we get our third head we're hoping for a promotion to Purgatory, Lost Luggage Division."

13 days of Halloween, "Rocky Horror Picture Show"

Day 5 of 13 (Science Fiction, double feature!)

"Hey Monty, isn't this great? Good food, good friends, and brand new Halloween costumes!
Let's go put 'em on and pose for the camera!"

"Yeah, you do that Sam, just never mind that once again I'm expected to assume a subservient role...as always, it's alllll about the Sam, isn't it?"

Give us all a break Monty, it is Sam's Birthday, after all....try and man up a bit, why don't ya? Remember: Don't just dream it, be it."

"OK, you're right, I'm sorry. Happy Birthday Sam...or should I call you Rocky? But I swear if this wasn't your birthday, there's no way I'd be dressed up as Colombia right now!"

Happy 8th Birthday, Sam! (...and a very late thank you!)

Our very special boy had a birthday on Thursday. Due to my work schedule, we decided to wait until this weekend to celebrate it.

It's my birthday!

If you remember, last year Sam was too sick to celebrate properly, so this year we wanted to give him a proper celebration - including a home cooked doggie birthday cake! Our good friend, Homer, supplied us the recipe last year. It smelled good enough for us humans to eat!

Mental note from the mom, use a smaller pan next time...

Here are the boys patiently waiting for the party to begin. Try as we might, we couldn't get Monty to wear the hat.

...and here they are posing for yet another picture.

When do we get to eat, Mom?

One more picture, Sam!

We sliced the cake, and each boy got a piece. Sam, in usual Sammy form, ate his too quick for me to get a picture.

Monty, however, was a perfect gentleman!

A while back, Sugar had a Trick n Treat contest and Sammy won the "What Do You Think Tester?" category. Sugar sent Sam his prize, and we've been holding it for a special occasion.

Thank you, Sugar! Both of the boys love the treats! I did have to rescue the card - Sam had every intention of ripping through whatever was between him and the treats!

I think Sam had a great day!

...and the boys are going to be busy for a while!

13 days of Halloween, "Bride of Frankenstein"

Day 4 of 13, (wherein the boys have a slight disagreement.)

But Sam, how come I gotta be the bride? It's demeaning. Besides, you're the one with the graying muzzle, so the wig would match you better than me anyway. You should be the one in this get-up.

C'Mon Monty, you're younger and slimmer, so you have to be the girl. I'm too beefy, too butch. You could even say I possess a frighteningly physicality, so I work better as the monster.

BOL! OH PLEASE! NO ONE looks at you and feels the least bit intimidated! Heck, just yesterday the cats were all calling you Tuna Can Sam!

...Now that hurts. And what the heck does that mean, anyway? I'm vicious, I can scare grown ups. Tuna Can Sam my fuzzy butt!

Yeah, yeah whatever you say...but if we get to do a vampire skit before this series ends, I'M the one who gets to be Dracula. You can be my sidekick Renfield. See how you like it...

13 days of Halloween, "The Wereman of Mesa"

To kick off the 1st of 13, a repeat from last year....

Full Moon approaching...

"I remember well the events which occurred when last that orb shone so brightly across the desert…and the horror that followed.”

“As its light streamed through the open window, I began to feel strange, twitching and snarling...”

“I dropped to the floor, unable to control my tremors...”

“…as a strange metamorphosis began to occur...”

“I cried out to my owner, What's happening to me? And thus she replied:”

“Even a dog who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night,

may become a man when the mandrake blooms,

and the autumn moon is bright."

Grand Canyon

Aaron and I decided to take a break this weekend and go camping at the Grand Canyon with the boys. What a great weekend! We have so many photos - it was hard to decide which ones to post.

Here are the boys when we first got there. We had to tie them out while we set up camp. Here is Monty - see the string hanging from his collar? That was our first attempt at tying him out. He quickly liberated himself and took off through the woods!

Here is Sam tied out. Monty liberated him too, but Sam had enough sense to stay with us.

Here is our home away from home.

Our boys weren't the only pups in the camp. We met a family travelling with their dogs and a couple of leash trained cats!

By the time we get camp set up, it was too late to do much more than eat dinner and sit around our campfire. I'll admit, the temperature at night fell to about 30 degrees, and we all spent a rather chilly night!

The next morning, however, we woke to a beautiful sight - the morning sun shining through the trees!

We spotted quite a bit of wildlife! Deer, squirrels, crows - we even had elk pass by our tent during the night. The boys couldn't get enough of snootering all the smells! Sam went a little crazy when he saw squirrels - he suddenly decided he was a great squirrel hunter!

We had to remind Sam of the rules of the National Park Service:

"I will not chase, harass or chew on the wildlife..."

After breakfast, we headed out to see the canyon and visit Grand Canyon Village. The boys, as usual, got quite a bit of attention wherever we took them! A nice couple took this picture of us. I wonder what Monty is thinking?

"I sure hope they don't blame this hole on me..."

The canyon was a little bit hazy, but it is still beautiful to look at!

Here we are on the way to the Watchtower.

The Watchtower.

Here I am enjoying the view with the boys.

It made for a long day, but everything we looked at and saw was so beautiful! We even managed to do something we thought was impossible - we wore out Monty!

Although, both of the boys were a little bit tired after our long day, and getting chilly! We were heading into another 30 degree night!

For the most part, the boys where all smiles. We think they really enjoyed themselves!

We had such a great time! We can't wait to go again!
